Lead Platform Engineer / Solutions Engineer / Systems Engineer
Azure / Governance / Linux / Windows
*Hybrid working model, with the balance anticipated to be 2 days of office working (Cardiff) and 3 days of home-working on a weekly basis.
Your potential future employer are searching for an experienced Lead Platform Engineer to implement, maintain, and improve their current and future IT system platforms. We think that you will analyse system requirements, address functional problems, as well as create test plans / scripts to perform standard testing, while delivering solutions to ensure high levels of performance and security.
Along with having the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, they hope that you will have a proven technical background across Linux and Windows infrastructure on Azure and on-prem Data Centres, coupled with a solid understanding of networks, with systems improvements and infrastructure automation at the core of everything you do. While this is a hands-on technical role, you would have responsibility for the day-to-day management of a highly skilled engineering team, providing the support they need to carry out their daily activities.
To make your working week as enjoyable and productive as possible, it’d be great to find someone with an enormous passion for Solutions & Platform Engineering, being comfortable and experienced with some of the following:
*designing, documenting, building and maintaining secure on-prem and Cloud infrastructure.
*organising and monitoring software and configuration changes.
*collecting requirements, understanding them, creating engineering / support documentation, and provide advice to enable support functions to work pro-actively.
*developing and executing comprehensive test cases, check and document results to ensure the systems technical, functional, and non-functional requirements are met.
*testing, launching and helping to train users in new systems.
*actively contributing to and improving the company's Solutions Development lifecycle.
*providing coaching and mentorship to team members.
We feel that the Lead Platform Engineer for this exciting opportunity will have some of the following skills, knowledge and experience:
*extensive commercial experience with Azure / CoLo Infrastructure Management.
*in-depth configuration management, automation and scripting skills, including use of a scripting language (Python) and proficiency with shell scripting using PowerShell / Bash.
*demonstratable commercial experience of Infrastructure as Code tools, such as ARM Templating / Terraform / CloudFormation.
*strong knowledge of platform and application automated deployment technologies, with experience of CI/CD.
*experience of Windows server - 2008(R2), 2012(R2), 2016, 2019; Linux Server – Ubuntu from 18.04; Redhat derivatives like Centos, Oracle Linux; solid networks skills (DNS/DHCP, TCP/IP).
*strong commercial experience of managing complex multi-tier enterprise infrastructure environment.
*a good understanding of a DevSecOps culture.
*a degree in Computer Science / related subject, or commensurate commercial experience.
